On July 12th 1997 a girl named Malala Yousafzai was born in Mingora, Pakistan. Malala loved going to school but unfortunately in her country education wasn’t treated the same for girls and boys. When Malala was 9 years old a group of people, called the Taliban, took control of her town and restricted girls from going to school. This made Malala upset and she became very outspoken in her community about this. When Malala was 15 years old she was riding home on a bus and members of the Taliban came onboard and tried stopping her. She was hurt but this didn’t stop her! One year later, on her 16th birthday, she traveled all the way to New York City to speak at a large conference asking for worldwide access to education. Her goal in life is to break down the many barriers that prevent girls around the world from going to school. Malala wants to make a change for something she strongly believes in and she has been awarded for doing so. At 17 years old she was the youngest person to receive a Nobel Peace prize.
